What's New in GFi MailEssentials 10?
|
|
|
New Features in GFI MailEssentials 10? Date: June 2004 - The Bayesian filter now automatically truncates the BSP file and removes useless tokens, reducing the size of the BSP file.
- GFI MailEssentials can now automatically check for an update to the spam profile database, and if there is an update, it automatically downloads it.
- Users can now add mails to the blacklist or whitelist by dragging and dropping a mail to a set of public folders.
- This now makes it much easier for a user to whitelist, for example, a newsletter.
- The Bayesian filter can now be tuned easily by administrators and users – mail wrongly identified as spam, or spam that has not been caught, can be dragged to the appropriate public folder.
- GFI MailEssentials picks up the mail and trains the Bayesian filter with it.
- The blacklist feature has been moved to its own node and now has its own set of actions.
- A new action has been added which allows mail to be sent to the junk mail folder (requires Exchange 2003).
- Whitelisting of emails by keyword: It is possible to specify keywords, which if found in body or subject, will cause the mail to skip the anti-spam modules.
- A new header check has been added that looks for encoded IP addresses, which indicate that the mail server is of a spammer.
- A list server has been added to the product.
- A list server is the best method for distributing company newsletters, as it automates the process of allowing users to subscribe and unsubscribe (required by anti-spam regulations).
- However, to date, list servers have been expensive and difficult to administer and they did not integrate with Exchange Server.
- GFI MailEssentials integrates with Exchange and can use Microsoft Access or Microsoft SQL Server as the backend.
- Both newsletter lists and discussion lists are supported.
- The mail archiving feature can now directly archive to MDB, MSDE and MS SQL Server databases.
- It can also archive attachments.
- The mail archive database can be searched via a web page.
- Access to the web page can be controlled and the search enables the retrieval of single emails as well as of entire threads.
- The reporter has been upgraded: There is no need to import text log files any longer.
- The logs are written directly to the database and the reports can be generated immediately, making the reporter easier and faster to use.
- GFI MailEssentials can check for product updates at set intervals, and if a patch or new build is available, it will email the administrator and give download information.
